Technical Information – Tile Fixing Guide
FIXING SPECIFICATION A – UNEXPOSED AREAS
All inland regions unless specified.
Mechanically fix two courses of tiles or full overhang at eaves, verges and ridges and a full tile adjacent to valleys, hips and abutments. Cut tiles should be secured by nailing, wiring or adhesive. Closed soffits is recommended on all verge and eave overhangs.
Roof Pitches
17° to < 26° – underlay mandatory
26° to < 45° – underlay recommended
45° to < 55° – underlay recommended, each tile to be nailed
55° to vertical – underlay recommended, each tile to be nailed and clipped

Coastal regions and certain inland areas.
Mechanically fix a band of tiles, equal to a fifth of the number of courses on the rafter length, at the eaves and verges, also at the chimmneys and abutments. Fix a full tile adjacent to hips
and valleys with the cut tiles. Mechanically fix
every third tile on the remainder of the roof in
a raking patteren. Closed soffits must be fitted
to all eaves and verge overhangs.

Eagle Undertile Membrane
Installing an undertile membrane is an integral part of tiled roof construction in coastal areas for. A correctly laid membrane neutralizes wind pressure and therefore substantially reduces the risk of wind lift. In addition, it prevents wind-borne rain and dust from entering the roof cavity.
An undertile membrane is mandatory for roof pitches below 260 and above 450, as well as for all roof pitches in coastal and other exposed and windy areas.

Eaves Comb Filler
The Eagle Eaves Comb Filler is designed with flexible fingers that adjust to fill the gaps left when using profiled tiles preventing entry of birds and vermin beneath the tiles. Each unit covers 300mm.
The Eaves Comb Filler should be nailed to the top of the fascia board through the fixing holes provided along the full length of the eaves.

Efflorescence
“Lime bloom” or efflorescence is a naturally occurring phenomenon and does not require any treatment.
When water is added to cement it sparks a series of chemical reactions that cause the cement to harden or “set”. Lime, a natural material, is a byproduct of these chemical reactions. It is slightly soluble and may appear on the tile surface as a white film once the water has evaporated.
Efflorescence does not affect a cement roof tile’s durability, strength or original colour. While levels of efflorescence vary in accordance with the lime composition of the cement and local weather conditions, it eventually disappears by itself.
